June Manufacturing Apprentice Winner

Congratulations to Callum McGrory of Aylesbury based Gibbs Gears, the winner of the UK Manufacturing Apprentice of June! Callum collects the accolade above his peers and scoops the £100 Amazon Vouchers as a reward.

Callum has now qualified for the AMI UK Manufacturing Apprentice of the year. The competition has been launched to find and recognise the very best apprentices currently working within the UK manufacturing industry. The initiative has been set up AMI (www.amiweb.co.uk), a web design & marketing agency that specialises in supporting UK manufacturing companies.

Callum’s words on winning the award, “I’m so thrilled to have won June’s apprentice of the month, it’s a fantastic feeling to think of how much knowledge I have procured at Gibbs Gears. Of course I could not have achieved so much without Reece (MD), Peter (Production Manager) and the rest of the Gibbs Gears team.”

Callum is 18 months into his Apprenticeship and continues to impress the Gibbs Gears production team with his skills and knowledge. He is now setting and operating CNC Turning Centres and has done basic programming.

All of Callum’s excellent practical work and skills has been mirrored with the coursework he is completing at college on day release. The lecturers there have been very impressed with Callum and he is on track to achieve Distinction grades.

“We have utilised Callum’s assembly skills to build prototype gear boxes and in this area his hand skills have really been evident in getting parts to fit and operate together. He has shown a good understanding of gears and how they are manufactured.”
– Peter Kelly, Production Manager
